Rotherham Sailing Club will have a team in the finals of the British Keelboat League, taking place in Cowes between the 22nd and 24th September. This is the first time a team from Rotherham SC will have been in the finals competing in One Design matched keelboats – J70’s. For a little sailing club, on our loveable puddle, competing in dinghies under 17′ this will be quite an experience

You can find out more information about the series here

Our team is made up of the following motley crew:

  Chris Cooper (Skipper)

Chris is the chief instructor at RSC and has been sailing since the age of 8, having learnt in a Mirror Dinghy. Currently a Phantom sailor he’s sailed various boats including a short stint on the 72′ maxi Rothmans. However, he’s never helmed a J70, so will be a new experience!

.Jane Morton

Jane crewed for her Dad in a Firefly as a child at Harthill.  After a 20 year gap she returned  to  Harthill and relearnt to  helm in a Mirror  dinghy. She’s sailed her beloved  laser radial for the last 15 years at RSC.

Andrew Stanton

Andrew attended a level 2 sailing course at RSC 3 years ago in an attempt to get outdoors more often and try new things. He joined Rotherham sailing club straight after, threw himself straight into club life and began sailing a Lark and a Laser. He was also a member of our keelboat team last year that competed in the Scarborough qualifier when we missed out on a spot in the finals. Ask Andrew what he thinks to sailing and there’s always one answer “Wish I’d done it sooner”.

Gary Milne

Gary moved to Harthill a year ago and currently sails a Laser. Previously he’s sailed on the Solent, with Calshot Sailing Club, in a

Laser and Dart 15/16.  Gary has also raced with Royal Southampton on a J92 and 707, a few round the island races and did the Fastnet in 2001. Prior to that he did a lot of Kestrel sailing and repairing!

We’d like to wish the team the very best off luck and look forward to receiving updates from them over the weekend on our Facebook and Twitter pages.
