It’s been a long time and we’ve been working busy behind the scenes to try and get you back out on the water as soon as possible. At all times we need to consider the safety of our members and also follow Government and RYA Guidelines and so the return is gradual and there are some restrictions you need to be aware of. These have been mailed to all members and Sunday 14th June is the date for your diary!
In line with the Government guidelines we still cannot open the Clubhouse, with the exception of access to the toilet. To maintain club cleanliness the plan is to just open the disabled toilet for all to use with a single door/corridor access. A nominated officer of the day will have access to the main clubhouse to open toilet access up, and will also be responsible for locking up again at the end of the day. We are not going to assign this duty as we do not want anyone to feel they must come to the club, however if you are prepared to volunteer for this role, please let us know. As the changing rooms are not available you will need to come prepared for activities and either get changed at your car or travel home in your sailing gear. There will be no access to the galley either so please bring your own food and drink. When on dry land around the compound, please ensure you maintain the 2m distance from people outside your own household.
We will be ‘testing the water’ (sorry, couldn’t resist) with Social Sailing only to start with, this will be on Sundays starting at 11am, in line with the existing racing schedule. To maintain social distancing, and also from a safety perspective, we will be restricting the number of boats on the water. Additionally, we will also be restricting sailing to below a wind speed of 15 knots. Whilst we know this will be disappointing to some, double handed boats can only be able to be sailed by members of the same household to maintain the Governments Social Distancing requirements. These will be monitored by the Officer of the Day. As we refine procedures (and hopefully restrictions are lifted further) we hope to open up additional sessions. As we are restricted to numbers we would ask that you email email@example.com to book your place. If demand requires we may open this up to timed slots so that everyone who wishes to sail has an opportunity. We look forward to seeing you at our first session on Sunday 14th June. Don’t forget to maintain that 2m distance from anyone outside your own household when on shore!
Are you a WhatsApp user? We now have a ‘Boating Buddies’ WhatsApp group for quick updates about the club. If you’d like to join, please send you mobile number to firstname.lastname@example.org and we’ll add you.
The club grounds are available at all times to access your boat berth for any maintenance, but please consider that both the Model yacht section and Open Water Swimmers are also looking to start restricted activities on their usual days so will be using the grounds at these times. We would ask dinghy sailors to avoid visiting during these times to maintain social distancing and allow these sections of the club to operate within the restrictions. We hope this comes as good news to you and that the instructions in the members email are sufficiently clear but please email us with any questions you might have.
