Rotherham Model Yacht Club offers a friendly and welcoming environment for anyone with an interest in wind-powered sailing through radio-controlled yachts. Boats can be built or purchased across a wide range of designs and price points, making the hobby accessible to beginners and experienced sailors alike. The club currently focuses on racing three of the most popular yacht classes, all of which can be transported in a medium-sized car.
The club is based at Rotherham Sailing Club at Harthill Reservoir, benefiting from some of the best facilities in the country, including excellent sailing water and a warm, well-equipped clubhouse. The location is easily accessible, just 15 minutes from Junctions 30 and 31 of the M1.
Racing takes place every Saturday, with all series running throughout the year and open to visitors. In addition, there is casual sailing on Wednesday mornings at Harthill, providing a relaxed opportunity to enjoy the water and practice skills.
