Pie and Pea Series is almost here
The nights are slightly longer following the change of clocks and that can mean only one thing – Thursday night Pie and Peas is back! Thursday 23rd April is the opening date for our first race. Usual format; 1 race, pie and peas afterwards in the clubhouse including a catch up with friends and maybe a beer if you’re not driving. The last few years this series has seen some very close racing with the final places not being decided until the very last race of the series. Look forward to seeing you there.

Don’t forget that for the weekend of the 18th and 19th April we have switched dates. The model; yacht section are hosting a regatta and will be using the water on Sunday 19th April. Dinghy racing will be on Saturday 18th April and there will just be 2 races, with the Open Water swimmers using the water from 2pm onwards. Once again Rotherham Sailing Club will be hosting an Easter Regatta Open Meeting. The event will consist of 3 races, with 2 to count and the first race will be at 11am. Every entrant will win an Easter Egg and the entrance fee is a very reasonable £5 for double handed boats and £3 for single handed boats. We are not planning on providing food at this event, although the usual snacks and hot drinks will be available, plus the bar will be open after the event and for the prize giving. 8 brave sailors took on the cooler sailing conditions for the first of the Frostbite series races this Sunday. Chris Cooper took the honours in both races with Jane Morton and Garry Chambers taking it in turns to claim 2nd spot. It’d be great to see more sailors out on the water in the coming weeks – don’t forget the first race is now at 11am.

Sailing starts on 22 March – see club calendar for details. We have changed and standardised race start time – races will be at 11:00 and 13:00 and when there is a third race this will be at 14:30. The is no obligation to do all the races if you only want to do one or two of the races on any one day then that’s fine – just turn up and take part in the races you want! With the season starting so does the membership year – membership forms and boat berth booking forms will be issued shortly!

We have had a couple of enquiries for some of our younger members to take part in this event – there’s still time to book some training even if you don’t want to take part in the competition. The Honda RYA Youth RIB Championship is a National Championship in which 8 – 16 year old RIB drivers can demonstrate their skills with the goal of winning a Highfield 460 or a Honwave T40 for their club.
