Harthill Reservoir Upgrade Programme

Posted by Chris on Dec 16, 2020 in Members, Sailing, Social | Comments Off on Harthill Reservoir Upgrade Programme

As our members will know, we have been liaising with the Canal & Rivers Trust for a number of months now with regards to the water levels throughout 2020. What with this and the Coronavirus restrictions it’s fair to say it has been a challenging year for Rotherham Sailing Club! The Canal & Rivers Trust have today announced a £5 million upgrade programme to the reservoir. They will be upgrading the reservoir in line with modern day standards, which will involve redesigning the overflow spillway to increase its resilience. This...

Social Sailing Sessions to Continue

Posted by Chris on Jun 15, 2020 in Members, Sailing, Social | Comments Off on Social Sailing Sessions to Continue

Well yesterday saw our first social sail under these strange times and what a great success it was. Fantastic to see smiles on faces as people got out on the water for the first time. We have to say a huge thank you to everyone for observing the Social Distancing requirements – looks like the floor markings helped!  We had the winch in operation for the first time and whilst a little slow, it was perfect for recovering the boat without all the grunt and with very few people required. We have identified a few little tweaks to make and...

Clubhouse AccessIn line with the Government guidelines we still cannot open the Clubhouse, with the exception of access to the...

Further Coronavirus Update

Posted by Chris on May 19, 2020 in Members, Sailing, Social, Uncategorized | Comments Off on Further Coronavirus Update

Following the government’s recent advice about the changes to Coronavirus restrictions and the advice that unlimited exercise is now allowed we have been looking at what may be possible for sailing and our members. Whilst it is clear that sailing individually is allowed, as a club event this still remains difficult.  The recent rule changes are quite clear – the restrictions on clubs and social gathering have not been lifted however you are now able to meet ONE other individual from outside your household in the open air,...

Covid-19 Closure Update

Posted by Chris on Apr 21, 2020 in Members, Sailing, Social, Uncategorized | Comments Off on Covid-19 Closure Update

In our last update we advised that the club would be closed until the end of April and that we would provide an update shortly after Easter as to the availability of the club and when we intended to re-open. At the risk of sounding like a Government Daily Press Briefing, we will at all times follow Government advice and as I’m sure many of you are aware the current Lockdown on the country has been extended until at least the 7th May. Given this extension it would be irresponsible of us to ignore this and open up the club, so the current...

Rotherham Sailing Clubs Response Hi all,Further to our post earlier in the week we have once again met tonight to discuss how we progress in these difficult and challenging times for the UK and the rest of the world. Our concern and priorities at all times will remain with our members and their health and safety, plus that of any visiting members of the public. Having considered the advice from both the RYA and the Government, given the clear directive around Social Distancing and to avoid large gatherings, plus clubs and pubs, we have taken...
